Lovecraft's works are generally considered to be fictional. Though in some areas Cthulhu and the Old Ones are often genuinely worshiped as truth. There are few who consider the Cthulhu Mythos to contain a great amount of truth. What are your interpretations on this?

I would like to believe that there truly were such entities as the Great Race of Yith for example. Therefore I won't exclude the possibility.

One would think that to come up with something as strange as the Mythos, you'd have to be insane, but I think that Lovecraft might've actually stumbled onto something that could change every thing on this planet. Crazy as it sounds. But that's just my opinion.

The universe is vast, and if there are other intelligences in it, they are probably as alien to us as anything in the Cthulhu Mythos.

On the other hand, some might make an argument about convergent evolution, regarding the possibility of aliens being roughly humanoid, bipedal, having a head, and so on. (Bast, are you on here yet?)

As I understand it, H.P. did a little research into the occult before writing his stories, but very little of this actually made it into his stories. He was more inspired by Lord Dunsay, Poe, Chambers, and that lot.

it is said that h.p. lovecraft had a relative that had an extensive library on books of mythologies and the occult in which he studied. it's possible that maybe lovecraft drew from these books and maded up his horror stories. however it is also possible that in his travels lovecraft might of came across some ancient text that told of a civilisation that existed long before any civilisation existed. we know of a few ancient civilsations such as egypt and of china. but in between these was summeria, and summeria is said to come out of nowhere. and then cease to exist. i believe in the idea that h.p.lovecraft might of found the actual text that later became the necronomicon in his stories. that text may have in part came from summera. the rest from an unknown civilsation yet to be discovered. that the stories of atlantis symbolises.
